A Pastoral View of France

May 16th, 2016 · No Comments · France

This is a little odd.

City people, like us … who find it fascinating and even a bit soothing when the neighborhood’s flock of sheep come ambling and baa-ing along.

Check the video!

For that span of time it takes for the sheep to cross our field of vision, here in the south of France, well, it’s like listening to a recording of crashing waves — in the sense of feeling stress exit the body.

We like this tape because, if you turn up the volume, it is possible to hear the “baas” from various sheep as they walk past.

The baas are so baa-like that it seems almost as if someone is off-camera and doing human versions of “baa.”

One of those bleating sheep sounds like it has a bit of a smoker’s voice. Hear it?

A neighbor of ours who has a similar view of the herd, as they pass, likes to call them “my sheep”. As in, “my sheep were in the domain’s field again today”.

I suppose we could become weary of this. Enough “baa-ing” to wake us … or maybe the “clonk” of the bells that a couple of the bigger sheep wear. (So they can’t sneak up on mice?)

Feel free to play the video two or three times. See if it doesn’t make you forget about some of your troubles, at least for a moment.
