Zombies in Long Beach

September 17th, 2012 · No Comments · Long Beach

I’m pleased to see that my hometown continues to be goofy.

The 5th Annual Long Beach Zombie Walk is coming!

That certainly registers as goofy.

Long Beach has a reputation as a rough town. A tough town. Many people who live in Orange County, for example, refuse even to visit “the LBC” because it is perceived to be too dangerous.

But those who live there know that the city has several broad stretches of wonderful neighborhoods with thriving small businesses and a great climate.

And it attracts a quirky sort of person, of late (to think, the city was known as “Iowa by the Sea” for decades, because it was perceived as dull), the sort who stages a Zombie Walk for fun.

I am not a fan of zombies. The undead walking around is not something I find amusing or interesting. But I understand it has a fascination for some, especially those who like to dress up in costume.

Long Beach has problems. To be sure. The north and west of the city have many blighted neighborhoods. But it isn’t all sad.

It’s encouraging to see that The Beach still has people willing to be silly on a grand scale.

I wouldn’t mind being able to go back ad live there some day … even if I would not be attending any subsequent Zombie Walks.
