The Vigil at the Construction Zone

This guy has been on the job for about three weeks now.

Work is going on — water lines, I believe — below the bus turnout on the offramp from Airport Road, about 100 yards from the front door of the apartment, in Abu Dhabi.

And to help drivers grasp that they would not be able to pull over where they normally can, the mannequin in uniform and reflective vest (above) was propped up.

The interesting thing about the mannequin is that to take in the scene from a distance or a quick glance, is to believe a living person is, in fact, holding up a flag in one hand and a light in the other. The proportions are correct, as is the outfit.

Guess that proves it works. That makes it successful.

It also means that a living human does not have to stand out in the sun for 11.5 hours a day. Nor does he need to be replaced every eight or 12 hours.
