The Ikea Monkey

Seems as if monkeys are everywhere all of a sudden.

Today’s story?

The monkey that got loose at the Ikea store in suburban Toronto.

You need to follow the link, just to see the coat the monkey was wearing. (As well as diapers.)

This monkey is identified as a rhesus macaque, the species I suspect was responsible for terrorizing some friends of ours in India about 10 days ago.

Seems cute and funny and all, but while looking for information on rhesus macaques as pets I came across this site, which has  a batch of testimonials — of a negative sort — about trying to keep small monkeys as pets.

Anyway, yes, a rhesus macaque monkey cleans up pretty well when going shopping, as the photos from the Toronto newspaper show … but you really shouldn’t keep one in the house or as a pet.
