The Best Reason to Be Out of Abu Dhabi in August

August 19th, 2012 · No Comments · Abu Dhabi, UAE

According to weather.com, at 2:24 p.m. local time today … the temperature in the UAE capital was 100 Fahrenheit.

Toasty. But here’s the key:

If “felt like” 129 Fahrenheit because of punishing humidity. Humidity of 60 percent, to be precise.

Fahrenheit 129 is 60.1 percent of the way to boiling … and 28.6 percent of the way to Fahrenheit 451. (Though paper in Abu Dhabi would be too soggy to burn, at that temp. At least for a while.)

Anyway, for those of you who are not retro when it comes to temps (I find Fahrenheit to be so much more expressive, and subtle), Abu Dhabi at 2:24 today was 37.8 celsius and the “feels like” temp was 53.9C.

I felt bad for the people there, including those who let me know what was going on … and hope they stayed inside as much as possible.

But, rule of thumb: It’s a good idea to be somewhere (almost anywhere) that is not the UAE, in August. Or September. And I am quite content to be in Long Beach, California, at the moment.
