Opting Out of the ‘We’re All Dodgers’ Campaign

June 21st, 2008 · 1 Comment · Baseball, Dodgers

Uh, don’t say that about me. I’m no Dodger. Actually, I used to know some Dodgers and the guys they have suiting up these days are no Dodgers.

One of the myriad advertising campaigns the Dodgers organization has going on … is this thing on their web site entitled “We’re All Dodgers … What’s Your Story?”

The club is inviting fans to write about how/when/why they became fans.

And I’m guessing an essay including language such as “I’m a Dodger because the franchise a long time ago stood for excellence, tradition and continuity” isn’t likely to be selected as a winner.

And what do you get, if you win this contest?

“Selected stories could be used for the FNS Prime Ticket Your Story on-air campaign throughout the 2008 season.”

What? Not even a couple of tickets in the pavilion in return for pimping yourself out for the McCourts? Not even a $5 Dodger Dog?

Oh, my goodness, is this franchise lame.

Anyway, I’m not a Dodger. I was as a kid. I left the team when I became a professional journalist, but I was capable of admiring them from a businesslike distance.

But since Peter O’Malley sold the team, a decade ago? I think not. I’m no more a Dodger than I am a Cub or a Yankee.

I’m guessing lots of people who might, once upon a time, have been willing to think of the Dodgers in terms of “we” … would like to keep an arm’s distance now. Please.

Anyway, we warned this club that their turn in the hot seat would come once the Lakers were off the stage.

Better bunker-down, boys.

Oh, and one more thing: If “we’re all Dodgers” … does it mean we’re all losers?

I think first prize is two Dodgers tickets.

Second prize is four Dodgers tickets.

Third prize is six Dodgers tickets.
