Five More Nations Make World Cup

November 18th, 2009 · 5 Comments · Abu Dhabi, soccer, World Cup

Yes, I know a lot of you aren’t interested. But five more teams got into the World Cup over the past six hours, and I did a big post on the circumstances over at the “Countdown to SA 2010” blog. Which can be seen over on the right side of this page.

Or, you can click here.

Maybe you haven’t seen the highlights, but France’s winning goal was totally bogus as Henry clearly handled the ball before making the pass to the goal scorer. Harsh on Ireland, but if they had converted some of their earlier chances it wouldn’t have come to that. If they play like this in South Africa France better pray they get placed in an easy group or it will be three and out for them.

That was worse than the Hand of God goal. Atrocious that France moves on that way.

Robbed, I tell ya. Henry even admitted to it after the match. Not that he could say anything else — it was *that* blatant.

I’m quite interested. Greece makes it. Awesome. I’m all for the U.S., Greece, Australia and New Zealand making it through.

And what gets lost in the abomination that was Henry’s goal is the fact he was OFFSIDE in the first place.

So not only did the linesman screw the pooch by missing that — with a clear, unobstructed view (unlike the referee) — but his flag should have been up anyway, thus rendering the whole hand-foot-Gallas-head = Bye, bye Ireland moot.
