Dubai’s New Patrol Car: Lamborghini Aventador

This brings a whole new meaning to the expression “police pursuit”.

Dubai’s police have purchased a Lamborghini Aventador — cost, Dh1.5 million, or about $410,000 — to add to their fleet of patrol cars.

No. Really.

The UAE is a country that is in love with fast and exotic vehicles, but how did a workaday organization like the Dubai police explain this investment?

According to a police statement, the purchase of the car, which has a top speed of 350 kph (217 mph) is “in line with Dubai’s reputation as the city of luxury services”.

It certainly adds to Dubai’s reputation for wretched excess.

The Aventador has no back seat, so the Lamborghini cups won’t be bringing suspects back to the station in it.

It perhaps could be handy for overhauling someone speeding in a car capable of “only” 200 mph. Maybe catching those 200 mph guys has been a vexing problem for Dubai police.

Said the cops: “It will be used on external roads and in locations that require fast, sporty cars.”

Maybe the message here is simple:

Even the police like driving fast.
