Cops and a Speedboat? Dubai Being Dubai

March 7th, 2014 · No Comments · Abu Dhabi, Dubai, The National

The biggest, fastest, most expensive … that’s Dubai.

It is a way of life there, at the metropolis an hour up the road from Abu Dhabi. A mindset.

And the latest?

The fastest police boat in the Gulf!

Take that, Qatar!

What a burn, Saudi!

See ya, Iran!

Dubai’s cops have the Lamborghini of the waters, a speedboat capable of hitting speeds up to 90 miles per hour. Built by Victory Team, a racing outfit based in the city.

Just what every cop shop needs.

The boat was shown to the world at the Dubai Boat Show, going on now, in the world epicenter of self-promotion.

It was built by the Dubai-based Victory Team, which competes in a global speedboat competition.

Last year, Dubai rolled out a fleet of six luxury police cruisers — a Bugatti Veyron, a Ferrari FF, a Lamborghini (dry-land version), an Aston Martin One-77, a Bentley Continental GT a Mercedes SLS and the latest addition of a McLaren MP4-12C.

And the police speedboat will not be the city’s only maritime purchase, according to the Dubai cops. A pair of sleek black speedboats, intended for the city’s SWAT team, will be shown to the public before the boat show is over.

Let’s give credit to the Dubai police for admitting what they are doing –  drawing attention to the city.

In November, Colonel Nabil Abdulla Al Redha, Dubai Police fleet director, said to The National:

“This is promoting the image of Dubai. This is just advertising. Because most people like sports cars. If you are putting an advert for just Dubai Police, perhaps not many people would be interested.

“But if you put an advert for a sports car, most people would be interested; people would be more attracted.”

Well, here I am, writing about Dubai again. It must be working.
